Part of what you don't like might be the horizon lines aren't level. Something else might be it is a little soft where it is important. The eyes. A little sharpening might take care of that. That grass is a distraction also. For the good parts. Exposure is right on. Doesn't look like you blew out any highlights and that can be tricky with an egret. It's not a bad photo just technically things that are distracting. I only offer this because you asked for critique and I know how difficult it gets when most people just say How cute. If you ever have any questions. Feel free to ask. We camo up and play Wildlife photographer all the time. Sorry for babbling.
Tim -- Wildlife Photography the way it is supposed to be...WILD Merlinstouch Where I work Midwest Signtech/ Actually in this one the horizon lines are spot on, its just wind direction and land formations which make it look worng.
I don't like the lighting and the fact that its not completely in focus. Thank you for the extra long critique, it's nice to finaly get it. -- The advances in protection are outweighed by the advances in penetration. -- Silence falls over the desolate, sandy battlefield as this silent sniper goes to work. S.S.Sidewinder Ya I know what ya mean on the horizon lines. I meant to say they appear. Always drives me nuts when they do that.
-- Wildlife Photography the way it is supposed to be...WILD Merlinstouch Where I work Midwest Signtech/ I've had a look at your "camo" and to be honest I don't do anything like that...... well not yet anyways. I use distance to my advantage at the moment.

S.S.Sidewinder Do it once and you will be amazed how close you can get. Ya you look weird walking in to Subway getting a sandwich but all the kingfisher shots were in camo. Most of the egret shots. The mink was within 5 feet at one moment. Good Luck you have a great start.
